Sometimes, I really appreciate a low-key evening, even if it's on the weekend. Maybe especially on the weekend, because lately I feel like we've spent so many Fridays out and about. Tonight it's just me, the cat, a bottle of wine and my iTunes getting some much-needed cleanup and updating. Does it make me a complete nerd that I'm completely content to weed through nearly 4,000 songs, deleting stuff I don't listen to anymore and fixing the album title/genre categories for my library? It does? Well, I guess I'm okay with that.

What about you guys? Do you have anything more exciting planned for you this weekend? For your sakes, I kind of hope you do :)

Just a plain ol' Friday

So I was going to do a Food Friday post today, with the eggs Florentine I made for dinner last night. But I was just kind of winging it with the recipe, so it didn't exactly turn out delicious. Guess I'll just have to keep trying it until I get it right...something about the spinach was really off. I think I overcooked it. Ick.

And since I'm such a poor planner, I didn't have a Financial Friday post or anything like that backed up and ready to go. So here we are. Outfit post!

Isn't it incredible what some good light will do for a photo? It was still too cold to venture outside for pics (I'm a complete wimp, unlike Kelly, who constantly blows my mind by braving the Canadian snow for the sake of good imagery), but we have south-facing windows in our living room, so the morning sun was just a-streamin' in for these shots.

This shirt is just about the comfiest thing ever. I've talked before about how I think thrifting is kind of frustrating sometimes, but when you find gems like this shirt or this blazer, it's pretty much 100% worth it.

Outfit oops

Do you ever wear an outfit all day, thinking you look awesome, only to realize as you edit and blog your outfit pics that you actually don't? That maybe, just maybe, you look a little bit like a hooker, or some other inappropriate wardrobe malfunction has befallen you? No? Just me then.

So yeah. This would have been much, much better with flat boots. But I wore this weeks ago (just found it in my "to-post" list, haha) so I didn't have my beloved flat black boots yet. I'm pretty sure I'll never wear these boots again, in fact. I'm not sure what it is...something about the heel and the way it folds over at the top makes me think "slutty pirate." But I bought these last year, when I was desperate for cute boots and stupid with my money.

Happy Halloween!

Ah, Halloween. Quite possibly one of my favorite holidays of the year. This year's festivities were a bit tamer than those of years past, but only because my last four Halloweens were spent at OU, reigning champion of the Halloween Party.

Friday we went to a party at a friend's house. I made costumes for Matt and I...any guesses as to what we were?


Stan and Wendy from South Park! I love it. I found Matt's sweatshirt/pants at Volunteers of America for a dollar each, we bought the wig and I made his beret. For my costume, I already had the coat and jeans, so I just made the gloves and sewed some fabric over a beanie I had. (Making your own beanie? Really, really difficult to do by hand.)

Also on Friday, I got a little package in the mail. It was my giveaway win from Sydney of Take me for a Twirl!




She sent it with a sweet little note, complete with a sealed-with-a-kiss envelope and glitter in the card. How cute is that?

Saturday I grabbed lunch with my dad and brother, who were in town, and did some major work on my freelance stuff before heading in for a shift at the restaurant/bar. It turned out to be a great shift; not only was it Homecoming and Halloween weekend at OSU, but we pulled out an unbelievable victory, so all our guests were in great moods and therefore tipped really well. (Also, when that final winning touchdown pass was caught, a bunch of middle-aged men dogpiled on the floor. I'm not even kidding. I narrowly escaped being crushed. Hilarious.) It didn't hurt that we were packed until 2 am, either. As a result, I finally reached my goal of saving $1,000!!!

I'm not quitting just yet, though. That amount was the minimum I wanted to save; I'm going to try to get a little more cushion going before the holiday season hits, all the students leave campus and business plummets.

Sunday was just a lazy day; I napped a lot (didn't get to bed until 3 or 4 am all weekend!), relaxed and did a little work in the evening.

All in all? A great weekend :)
