No one becomes a cat lady on purpose

Once upon a time, Matt did not like cats and I was fairly indifferent. I had had a couple growing up, but one was terrible (it ate carpet) and the other didn't really like me. So, you know, they seemed cute and all, but not the best companions.

Then, we adopted Spazzy.

Spazzy was born to a stray that lived in the backyard of my friend's then-boyfriend's house. Anyway, they couldn't find a home for her, and the shelters were full. She was so adorable, so I begged Matt and he caved, and she came home with us. And now...

No one ever means to become a cat lady (or cat guy?) on purpose. But Matt and I just watched videos (yes, there are multiple) of Spazzy playing when she was a tiny kitten. And now I just want another little kitten, to be silly and cute and keep Spaz company. And you know something? I don't think Matt is 100% opposed to the idea either, haha. And so it begins...

(And if you're like us, and really love cat pics/videos, check out this old post and follow me on Instagram (efrankart). I post way more cat pictures than is probably appropriate.)

I love my cat. But sometimes, I really hate my cat.

Last night, Spazzy (aka Spazzcat McGillicutty) decided to go all hyped out and become an explorer/adventurer. Which means she was on a mission to get into the plastic drawer set that houses my socks, tights and unmentionables. When a cat is scratching on/clawing at plastic, it's not quiet. Especially if you're trying to sleep. Especially if it's 1 in the morning and you have yet to actually fall asleep.

And if she wasn't doing that, she was using our box spring as her own personal scratching post. (We had to take the bed off the frame and put the box spring directly on the floor, because she kept getting stuck up inside it from below.) We finally had to shut her up in the office, where we could hear her crying and mewing in the most pathetic manner until we finally fell asleep. It just about broke my heart. Or it would have, if I hadn't been so mad at her.

So instead of posting the outfit I had scheduled for today, I spent the morning on Pinterest looking for a screen/room divider thing (that I can actually afford) to put in front of my doorless reach-in closet to help solve at least some of the problem. Something like any of these would do:

As for the box spring scratch post problem, I guess I'll just have to convince Matt to make me this (haha):

Okay but for real...where the heck can I find a room divider screen that doesn't break the bank? Guess it's time to make a trip to the architectural salvage store and the secondhand stores around town...

That's better

Well, it looks like the worst of whatever had me down yesterday is over. Still feeling a bit blah, but at least I know I'll make it through the entire workday, unlike yesterday when I left at 11:30. Blech. I hate being sick.

But you know what I don't hate? You guys! (Terrible segue, I know.) But seriously, you guys rock. Comments on my Monday blah post and my yesterday blah post really made me smile. And, without going into too much personal/professional detail, I need all the smiles I can get! So thank you. Truly.

So I just noticed my cat creepin' in that first picture. She's a little stinker for sure. Thanks for the photobomb, Spazzcat!

Let's see, what else is going on? We're supposed to get our first real snow of the season tomorrow (previously, we got about an inch, if that). Which, for Ohio, is just absurd. Though I have to admit, I've been just fine with the warmer weather lately. What can I say? Guess I'm truly a southern girl at heart. Give me a skirt-without-tights Christmas over a white Christmas any year :)

Split minds

Every morning when I get dressed, I compose a blog post in my head that corresponds to the outfit I'm wearing. I think about talking points, like how I almost paired a different shirt or necklace with the outfit, or a funny story about an item I'm wearing.

But by the time I actually post the outfit, a few days to a week later, I've almost always forgotten what talking points I had thought up and inevitably wind up talking about something else. Like with this outfit, I'm sure I had intended to say something about how I'm not sure if this all-neutrals outfit is chic or if it just makes me look washed out. But all I want to talk about this morning is how Spazzy keeps staring at me and mewing, and how stinking cute she is.

shoes: Franco Sarto via Marshall's

Sometimes I remember what talking points I had wanted to touch upon, and then it starts to compete with whatever's going on at the moment I'm writing, and the post winds up sounding like two different people wrote it. Which I'm sure is rather weird to read, particularly if you can't follow my train of thought. (But don't feel bad if you can't...few people can. Even Matt makes me stop for clarification at times, haha.)

Oh well. Spazzy is now asleep next to me on the couch, and there's more adorableness going on there, so I think I'm just going to forget about my split-personality blogging habits and bug her for a little bit :)

Introducing...the kitty's name!

You ever have one of those mornings where you wake up exhausted, despite a full 9 hours' sleep, and you contemplate using a sick day except the magazine goes to the printer the day after tomorrow and it's nowhere near ready so you pretty much have to be at work so you drag yourself out of bed into the shower and some clean clothes take some groggy outfit photos and prepare to head out the door sans coffee because your doctor says you reallyshouldn'tdrinkthatstuffanymore--

{deep breath in}

No? Just me? Okay, here's a funny cat video compilation instead. It pretty much explains why we named our kitten Spazcat McGilicutty (Spazzy for short).

Now imagine those antics every evening and half of the night. I blame myself. I accidentally only bought toys with catnip in them. And apparently her scratch thing has catnip in it too. So she's pretty much constantly tweaked out. Sorry, Spazzy.

And for those of you who aren't cat people (what?!), here's my most recent mani:

I'm wearing Sand Tropez by Essie as my base color, with Blue Slushie by Opi for Sephora (the Glee line) and some neon orange that I've had for years and years.
