Grumpy cat day

That would be me, all day today. It's just been one of those days that started off on the wrong foot, and then a boatload of frustrations got piled on top, and now I just can't get out of it. I won't bore you with the details (and I'm trying this new thing where I don't spread negativity by complaining), but I'm trying my damnedest to stop being so sulky. I've eaten a bar of dark chocolate (courtesy of a friend), listened to this song a billion times (courtesy of another friend) and thought a lot about wedding dresses. Helpful, yes, lasting, not so much. Try as I might, I keep reverting to mayor of Grumpcity.

I know Ally likes to dress up when she's feeling down; Sydney likes making a creative cocktail; other friends like to dance or listen to music or do yoga. I like to do those things, or climb. But I am at work, and then I have a dentist appointment, and then I have to go to the store, and then I have to edit photos. Though I suppose photo-editing is kind of like meditation to me, or at least it gives me something neutral and constructive to focus on so I stop thinking about how frustrated I am.

What do you do when you're in a funk you can't shake off?

  1. Sorry, dear. Some days just suck. Look for small pleasures, like a warm cup of tea or a few minutes reading a magazine. Or blogging, as you did.

  2. I wound up climbing at my friends' house for an hour and a half--they have a bouldering wall built in their basement--and it was just the best 90 minutes of my entire day. So necessary, and so helpful!

  3. Ahh! I would make all of the creative cocktails for you!! I'm sorry you are having a grumpy cat kind of day. My recommendation: read a book about French culture. I know, strange, but the French always seem to have an answer to any and all problems I'm having and it gives my mind something to dream about.

  4. That's an interesting one! I'm trying to learn French (or rather, expand on what I learned in and have forgotten since high school) and that would be a cool tie-in. Any particular suggestions?

  5. oui madame! You could try "What French Women Know" by Debra Ollivier
That's awesome you are learning French!! I was in French Immersion (I imagine such a thing does not exist in the states haha) and almost all my french is gone!! It's a bit sad actually.

  6. Merci beaucoup, I'll check it out! I've heard of doing immersion learning, but I think my only option would be to Craigslist a fellow Francophile and just meet up so nous avons pu parler Français. (Did I say that right? It's supposed to say "we could speak French, haha.)
