First off, a major thank you is in order. To those of you who emailed/commented/Tweeted with kind thoughts and words regarding yesterday's post. You guys are the reason I keep blogging. And a thanks to those who read but didn't laugh at my overdramatic-ness. I know you're out there.

I'm happy (thrilled, delighted) to say that as of this evening, Matt and his friend are still fine. They checked in with the GPS thing last night, after my post, and again this evening. And this afternoon, they climbed to the highest point in Utah (King's Peak) and were able to catch enough of a cell phone signal to send a few texts. Matt and I were able to do the whole "I love you/I miss you exchange," and I was able to scold him for not checking in more regularly, haha. (I didn't really scold him. It was more of a "It sucks when I don't hear from you guys every day.") He said they're kicking some major ass on this trip so far, and everything's been going well. It was one of the best texts I've ever gotten.

So today's post title isn't just the name of a great Jack Johnson song. It's what I'm doing the rest of the week: sitting here, waiting for Matt to come home, wishing it were Saturday. But in the meantime, I'm trying to jump back on my "projects" list to keep myself busy and distracted and not worried :)

Minted

Well, not much time for chit-chat this morning. I just spent the last 15 minutes trying to fix my computer, instead of writing this post. It wouldn't connect to the internet, then it wouldn't shut down properly. But everything seems to be working now. Phew!

This jacket? Wound up not wearing it at all that day. Oops :) Oh and these heels? Bought them to wear in my sister's wedding in July. LOVE. Apparently they're from Fergie's line but I got them at DSW for $30. Epic score.

When I first saw Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night" video, part of the intro left me a little dubious. See, she talked about how mint was supposed to be a big trend come spring of 2012. And all I could think was, "I just don't know if I can get on board with this one."

Boy, was I wrong.

Turns out, I love this color on me. My nails have been mint-colored for weeks. And when Sydney sent me a box of clothes with this shirt in it, I was thrilled.

What about you? Has there ever been a trend that you initially wrote off, only to fall in love with later?

Also, don't forget to enter my today! It ends tonight, so the clock's a-tickin'! Winner announced tomorrow.

Scarlet and Gray

You may have noticed a new button in my affiliates section...on the right sidebar...or maybe not. Either way, there's a new button there. It's for Shop It To Me, a sweet site that recently invited me to join its Trendsetters program! Hooray!

To put it briefly, you just join the site, tell it what brands you like, then sign up for a certain email frequency. It can be daily, or just once a week, or somewhere in between. The emails contain sale items from your favorite brands. The site describes itself as being kind of like your own personal shopper, and I have to admit, it's a pretty good description. Kind of makes me wish I had more money for non-thrifted clothes ;)

So if you're not a member, you can click the link in the top paragraph there to sign up. Disclaimer: I'm an affiliate, so I do get perks if you sign up by clicking there. But I can say with all honesty (because you all know I'm not a sell out, I tell it like it is) that it's a pretty sweet service. I customized mine to only send me emails with items under $100.

Anyway, enough blah-blah-blah-ing. Here are some pictures!

cardi and shoes: thrifted
cami: Old Navy
skirt: The Limited
belt: Target
necklace: Forever 21

I was going to link this to Jill's Work It Wednesday post, but I realized that I tend to wear this skirt the same way every time. Black or nude pumps with neutral, layered, tucked-in tops and a long necklace. I need to mix it up a bit!

A little inspiration for this tucked-in cardi, however, goes to Whitney and her Emma-Pilsbury-inspired wardrobe. This is a bit too radical for Jayma Mays' character on Glee (bright red?!) but it's the same concept, I think.

The final inspiration came from my beloved football team, the OSU Buckeyes. Yes, we're having a terrible season. Yes, we all miss Tressel terribly. (And I miss his fashion. What other football coach looked so great on the field? Sweatervests forever!) But we'll get through this season, folks. I promise!

EBEW: Colored Pants

I really, really wanted to call this post "One dolla holla". Because I found these pants at a thrift store (yesterday, in fact) for JUST ONE DOLLAR. I must have been thrifting at some crappy stores, because I have never purchased a pair of pants for a dollar before. IT'S BLOWING MY MIND!!

But it's Everybody, Everywear, and I just feel like I should give credit where credit is due. After all, if it weren't for EBEW, I wouldn't even own these awesome pink pants. Yeah, I bought them just for the challenge. I really wanted red pants, but there weren't any good ones in my size and I didn't have time to buy a white pair and dye them.

Tshirt: Old Navy
pants, cardi and shoes: thrifted
necklace: The Limited

So these pants do have one drawback: they're a bit short. Or rather, my legs are just kind of almost freakishly long. Whatevs. Either way, I think these look even better cropped...I'll probably hem them to capri length at some point, whenever I can make it over to my grandma's sewing machine house. Sadly, this may be the last time (or at least, one of the last times) I expose my bare legs this season. It's getting cooler...and I'm not ready for it :(

Oh well. At least with the discovery of this thrift store (thanks Chasity for telling me about it!), I can bulk up my fall wardrobe. And I can probably do it for under $30. Awesome.

A perfect storm

Today seems to be one of those days where everything aligns perfectly...in all the worst ways. This outfit is what happens when:

- You wake up with a migraine. You take your prescription, but it knocks you out so hard that you oversleep and are pressed for time. Your head doesn't hurt, but you feel like you haven't slept in days.
- You're doing a 30 for 30 challenge and you have been too busy/lazy/forgetful to do laundry all week. So instead of 30 items to choose from, you have about five.
- You are me.

items: 13, 18, 20, 24
necklace: gift from Matt
bracelet: don't remember

I'm not entirely disappointed in this outfit, but I definitely could have done better. Ah, well. There's always tomorrow, no?

And of course, there's the long weekend to look forward to. If you ask me, one of the best perks of working in an office is that they pay you to not work on days like the Fourth of July. Awesome.

Finally, two questions: Anyone else experiencing issues with Blogger in Draft and Google Chrome? They do not like each other. Which is sad, because I like them both on their own. Oh, Blogger, don't make me choose! And the second question: If you haven't given me feedback on a possible name change, could you take two seconds and let me know what you think by clicking here? I'll give you a hug :)

Jump for joy!

Okay, that might be a bit dramatic. But I had a really, really great day yesterday, and I wanted this post to reflect that. So I decided to do a "jump for joy" shoot. On my first attempt, I got a perfect jump shot, but my face looked goofy:

So I tried again. Several more times. And wouldn't you know, I just could not get the timing right!

So I gave up on that and went back to regular outfit shots.

I swear, our deck is not dangerously tilted. Slightly not-level-anymore, yes. But my photo taking is kind of janky at the moment...my bendy-tripod broke, so I've resorted to propping my non-bendy tabletop tripod up on a chair, which means I'm shooting up at an angle, and it makes things look all out of whack. I'm getting a better tripod, I promise.

Now, as for my awesome day yesterday. I got some really awesome news, which I unfortunately cannot share for another week. But trust me. It's pretty sweet. Then I set the ball in motion for what may *possibly* be my first giveaway. Stay tuned on that one!

In the afternoon, Matt and I signed a lease on a house! I'm thrilled about this. Our apartment is nice, but we found out they're raising rent if we stay, and the place is definitely not worth it. So this house has a fenced-in yard (you better believe I'm going to start begging for a puppy!), a dishwasher, a washer-dryer in the basement, and a lovely mid-size closet that I'm going to commandeer and make into an awesome mid-size closet. Pretty excited. We move in September :) Expect some awesome decorating posts!

Finally, I went to a Tweetup event for Cbusr, this online community of young professionals in Columbus. I had so much fun! I got to chat with the guy who made the site, as well as a social media mogul who is basically the most awesome girl ever. And I met a few new friends as well, which is always great.

Phew. Longest post I've done since starting this blog. Sorry for jabbering your ears off...I'm just excited!

Last change. For reals.

This is the last 30 x 30 substitution I'm making. It's just that the teeny LBD I originally included (#3) was intended for my birthday and that only, and I didn't feel like wearing it. Then my grandma gave me this awesome dress as a gift, and I had to wear it right away, so I swapped it out. But this is the final change. Promise.

items: 3, 24, 27
bracelets: from Uganda
necklace: Global Gallery

I didn't want to throw on the cardi, but it gets so darn cold in my office sometimes! Lately the AC has been on the fritz, though, so maybe it'll be a little warmer than an icebox today.

In other news, I've been wanting a paisley-inspired dress for a while, and I'm loving them hem of this one! Thanks, Grandma :)

An update!

Yesterday, I mentioned that I was considering dropping a couple items from my 30 and replacing them with others. Well, I wound up doing just that. After all, who needs eight pairs of shoes for a remix challenge?? That's overkill.

So I dropped two pairs of shoes and added in a pair of long pants that I can wear to work (and cuff up when it gets hot again, hehe) and a coverup. I wore both items today, because the magazine is doing a luncheon thing at a hotel downtown, and I wanted to look professional rather than trendy. So here it is:

items: 24, 13, 23, 27
watch: Walmart

That would be my "oops" face. As in "oops, should have thought about how many shoes I included in my 30" :)

In other news, it's not even 10 and I know today is going to be long and stressful. It's a great feeling.

Update: Just realized this works for the Bloggers Do It Better assignment of neon and neutrals. Go me! Really though, I'm excited to finally jump on that bandwagon.
