Stuck in a rut

As usual, I'm going to be totally honest and throw some word-vomit at you guys. (Sorry for the gross imagery there. But let's face it, that's what it is.)

I have been feeling completely, totally, 100% un-inspired by my closet lately. It's kind of like back when I first started style blogging more than a year ago...I just stare in front of my too-full closet, thinking to myself, Dear God, I have nothing to wear.

Now, you know and I know that this simply is not true. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that my closet is currently fuller now than it ever has been before. So what's with my lack of enthusiasm? And how can I fix it?

I've thought about saving up a couple hundred dollars and going on a major shopping spree, but I don't think that's too practical...especially after this weekend, when I got the news that my clutch has officially died and needs replacing. Which can run, from my research, anywhere from $700 to $1200. My emergency fund is still in the process of being built back up, after being completely depleted during tax season. So a shopping spree is pretty much a no-go.

I guess I could scrounge together $50 or so and go thrift-store wild, but to tell the truth I don't think I have the energy for that kind of undertaking. My shopping sprees go so much better in stores like Express, The Limited and New York & Company, where they have outfit inspiration all throughout the store. Maybe I'll bump that figure up to $100 and head to Marshall's or TJ Maxx, but at that point I begin to feel like I'm spending too much again when my poor car is still waiting patiently at the garage for me to pay the mechanic and take her home.

So now, in a culmination of the most first-world-y First World Problems, I'm left wondering what I should do. Do you ever get stuck in a blogging rut (style blog or otherwise)? If so, how do you get out of it?

  1. I am currently hating everything in my closet as well! I find that the seasons changing is when I get really upset about my wardrobe. Spring to early summer seems to be the time I just want to say screw it, and wear shorts and tshirts all day every day. It also doesn't help that it's a billion degrees already. I usually just wait it out, then late summer/early fall comes around and I'm happy again!

  2. If you have an H&M near you I would go there. $50 can get you quite a bit of stuff and they always have good window displays for inspiration. The other thing I do when I lose inspiration is find something in my closet I really like (like my green jeans or something like that) then I go to pinterest and search 'green jeans'. Something I've never seen ALWAYS comes up and it inspires me to try something I've never thought of. Good Luck!

P.S. when you said your clutch needs replacing I thought to myself 'why would a hand bag cost so much?' Duh! Not everything is about fashion Raych :)

  3. I agree with Syd. You should do a 30x30 or some other kind of challenge.
Or at least force yourself to participate in some 'inspiration days' where someone else picks the photos out for you.
Megan & Nora do one every Monday, I've played along a couple times. They can be quite fun. http://twobirdsboutique.blogspot.com/

  4. Hi! I just found your blog and felt like I had to comment on this post. I have been in a few ruts during my short time of blogging (only since December). At one point I decided to only buy things that I love instead of worrying about how many outfits I can make using my other clothes. While I know you aren't going to go shopping- it could help if you just start wearing all of your favorite pieces. Sort of to reinspire yourself. I hope this helps in some small way!

  5. Hmm.. Just an idea, have you tried cleaning out your closet recently? Re-organizing? Sometimes it helps to see what you have in a new light.. Gives new life to old things. I do this sometimes and find treasures that I had forgotten about. Might help you?
